Earlier this year I was challenged to write a 10,000-word romance story for submission to a small local publisher, Serenity Press. I resisted at first, thinking romance wasn’t the genre I wanted to write, but eventually gave it a try. At least it got me writing, I reasoned. The guidelines were brief: write a story based on a loving connection and set in or around the beautiful coastal area of Rockingham, Western Australia.
The result was “The Point of Love” and I’m pleased to share that the story was accepted for publication and will have a place in the Rocky Romance anthology with five other writers’ short stories. The other authors are Monique Hall, Teena Raffa, Louisa Loder, Mike Murphy and Karen Weaver. Check out the cover:
The collection is due for publication in November 2015. I don’t have buy links yet, but will share them when I do.
In the meantime, here’s the blurb:
New girl in town and journalist Lexie, has been targeted by developers who want to sell her their vision for a marina at Mangles Bay. On paper, the proposal looks good, but when Hands Off Point Peron spokesman and Thor-lookalike Andrew Fletcher takes her to nearby Point Peron, she starts to have second thoughts.
A date at Penguin Island sets the scene for love, but when Lexie’s front page story about the marina is published, Andrew is far from impressed. Will Lexie be able to turn the situation around? Or is the story a deal-breaker for Andrew?
And a teaser:
She waited for him to say something, hoping he put her flushed cheeks down to the fresh air, and praying he couldn’t hear her heart thumping. He swallowed and took a deep breath.
‘Can I ask you something? Did you call me Thor? The other day when we met?’
Oh God. He did hear that.
‘Yes. Yes, I did.’
‘I thought so.’ He suppressed a smile. ‘It’s very flattering, of course, but …’
‘But?’
‘I’m a much better kisser.’
