I’m delighted to reveal the cover of My Silly Mum, my first picture book to be published via Serenity Press. It’s been a privilege to work with Veronica Rooke on the design (as well as the illustrations, which I just adore).
My Silly Mum was written about 10 years ago and left to languish on my computer. Somehow, it survived multiple moves and upgraded computers. When I sent it to Serenity Press for its Serenity Kids imprint, I didn’t expect that within a couple of months I’d be discussing the finer points of illustrations with Veronica.
Here’s the blurb:
Dancing with the vacuum cleaner … making my dinner into funny faces. My mum is so silly she drives me nuts! Sometimes I wish my mum wasn’t so silly … or do I?
With delightful illustrations and a hearty sprinkling of humour, My Silly Mum captures the eye-rolling, face-palming moments of growing up with a mother who still remembers what it’s like to be a child.
Where did my inspiration come from? First of all, my own mum, who still makes me roll my eyes and sometimes even laugh at her mum jokes. And, of course, my own relationship with my now adult sons, Bear and Monkey (not their real names). I’ve given them plenty of eye-rolling moments and, despite what they say, they did think I was funny once. A long time ago.
My Silly Mum is set to be released in May, around Mother’s Day.
