Movie rights for Jessica’s Knoll’s upcoming novel, Luckiest Girl Alive, have been snapped up by Lionsgate, with the feature adapation to be produced by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea through their Pacific Standard company. I’ve been lucky enough to see an advance copy of the book. This book’s going to get tongues wagging, that’s for sure. It’s dark, it’s riveting and it’s one of those books that’s hard to put down.
Here’s the teaser:
Sometimes I feel like a windup doll, like I have to reach behind and turn my golden key to produce a greeting, a laugh, whatever the socially acceptable reaction should be. I managed a tight farewell smile for Spencer. She wouldn’t mistake my name again, not once the documentary aired, not once the camera narrowed in on my aching, honest face, gently dissolving any last confusion about who I am and what I did. (p22)
And here’s the blurb:
HER PERFECT LIFE IS A PERFECT LIE. . .
Ani FaNelli is the woman you love to hate. The woman who has it all. But behind the meticulously crafted façade lies the darkest and most violent of pasts . . .
When a documentary producer invites Ani to tell her side of the chilling and violent incident that took place when she was a teenager, she hopes it will be an opportunity to prove how far she’s come since then. She’ll even let the production company film her wedding to the wealthy Luke Harrison, the final step in her transformation. But as the wedding and filming converge, Ani’s immaculate façade begins to crack, and she soon realises that there’s always a price to pay for perfection.

I NEED a copy of this book, thank you so much for sharing – nothing like a good story with the darkest of secrets. Here is my Tuesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/first-chapter-first-paragraph-may-19/
Definitely a book I think you’d love, Cleo.
In my Sunday / Monday reading check-in post I mentioned I read this book and found Ani to be very unlikable. I’m assuming Knoll meant her to be…. Thankfully I enjoyed the book overall.
Oh, she is so far, Deborah. I shake my head when she does something sly.
I noticed this before, when it was in WoWs quite alot, and was intrigued then. I would hate this kind of life — always pretending, always forcing myself to do my best. Happy on the outside is never the same as happy on the inside, too.
Well, I hope you enjoy to the last page! =) My TT
It is a sad way to live, that’s certain. Wearing a mask and hoping it never slips.
This sounds really good. I’m checking out other reviews in Goodreads to see if it’s worth picking up. Thanks for sharing!
My TT this week.
Interesting. From the other comments I gather she is unlikeable. It’s hard to pull off a novel with an unlikeable main character. My Teaser is a paranormal mystery.
She is difficult to warm to, yes. But I am starting to see another side.
Intriguing teaser!
Wow, sounds really intriguing and I like the description of how she feels like a wind-up doll! Great teaser!
Here’s my Teaser!

Reblogged this on Perth Words… exploring possibilities. and commented:

You bet I’m hooked. This is on my summer reading list and I’ll probably bump it up closer to the top.
