SUNDAY SHOUT OUT

Is there ever such a thing as too many books? I don’t think there are too many books to read, but there can definitely be too many to review. Often I’m sent books and, with an already sagging review shelf, these unsolicited books often often don’t fit in to my schedule. Other times, I am unable to finish a book I intended to review (for various reasons), or I don’t have time for a full review. Sunday Shout-Out aims to acknowledge these books and the publishers who have sent them to me.

Sunday Shout Out is a bookish meme hosted by Monique of Write Note Reviews. If you’re a book blogger and you want to join in, just:

  • Share the title, author, blurb and image from a book (or more than one) you want to acknowledge
  • Share the genre, price and link to the publisher so readers can follow up if they like the sound of the book
  • Ping back to Write Note Reviews in your post.

Courting Trouble by Kathy Lette, Random House RRP $29.99. Available from Random House here.

Courting Trouble, Kathy Lette
Tilly has the day from hell when she’s sacked from her barristers’ chambers in the morning, then finds her husband in bed with her former best friend in the afternoon. She escapes to her mother, Roxy – a sassy solicitor whose outrageous take on men, work and family life is the despair of her more conventional daughter. Roxy comes up with a radical plan for their future – they’ll set up an all-female law firm which will only champion women who have been cheated, put upon, attacked, ripped off or ruined by the men in their lives. In court, Tilly finds herself up against Jack Cassidy, the smooth-talking, politically incorrect, legal love god who broke her heart at law school. Jack is fluent in three languages – English, sarcasm and flirtation… but if he’s so loathsome, then why is she committing Acute Lust in the 3rd degree? When a case lands on the doorstep that threatens to change all their lives, Tilly finds herself dangerously close to taking the law into her own hands… Will Jack’s cunning ways and expertise in emotional break and enter derail her quest for justice? Or will the women take on the boys… and win?
If sarcastic humour is your thing, or you’re a fan of Kathy Lette’s writing, Courting Trouble could be just the book you’re looking for. Not so much my kind of book; while I read the The Boy who Fell to Earth and found it amusing, this one didn’t win me over. It’s supposed to be a fun legal drama, but it was hard to see the funny side when the case being investigated was a gang rape. Reviews on Goodreads are mixed – it seems to be a love it or hate it book, with not a lot of in between.
