Midweek Moment #59: How fragile we are

This week is one of reflection for Louise and I.

I’ve always wanted to see the tulips at Araluen in Spring, but this is the first year I’ve managed to go.

As expected, there were loads of people taking photos – selfies (don’t get me started on selfie sticks), close ups of flowers, bobbing down between garden beds and so on. What could I get that was somewhat different?

Earlier this week I shared some photos of tulips reflected in water that resemble Monet’s Impressionist artworks. These photos have a soft, almost painted quality that I love and sum up my mood that day – soft and dreamy.

The photo I’m sharing today is a sharper reflection of tulips in the frog pond. For me, it speaks to me of the way aspects of life suddenly takes on a sharper focus as priorities shift and change. It’s strange because today I’m feeling meditative and a bit blurred; I’m overwhelmed by a few things going on at home, and what I’m striving for is that clear focus again.

Here’s another photo from the same series:

And the “Impressionist” one:

The orchid in Louise’s Midweek Moment photo was a gift from a friend. It has pride of place on my kitchen bench, and this week it’s had special nurturing. Earlier today, she took it outside and sprinkled it with water (only a little because she’s drowned a few orchids in her day), and took photos.

“Some of the shots have turned out really well, with the sun making the water droplets look jewel-like. But this photo was my favourite. I like the pastels and the light and the blurred softness. And I like the water drops along the edge of the lip. But most of all, I like the fine tendrils that curl from the end. They look so fragile, as indeed they are. As indeed we all are.”
