Midweek Moment #45: Different angles

Sometimes, when you’re stuck on something, it helps to look at things from a different angle.

Midweek

This week I’m digging deep into my characters – how will they react to a shock revelation? I want to offer different perspectives, so I’m asking myself ‘What is this character feeling and what will she do?’. And ‘What will her husband do? And her friend?’ It means I have to look at the same incident from different angles.

In the same way, I took my camera out to the garden at work to shoot some macro images of a budding flower. The bud was covered in dew drops, so I got in nice and close. I’ve come to realise that macro shots are my favourite of all, and my preference for them mirrors the way I write. In these shots, I love the light, detail and vibrant colour.

Louise was also captivated by yellow flowers recently. Her image looks as though it is suspended in space.

She spotted these gems in St Kilda Botanical Gardens when she was in Melbourne last week. “I spotted this flower in St Kilda Botanical Gardens when I was in Melbourne last week. I presume it’s a native, but I have no idea what type of flower it is. I was intrigued by its spikes and by the tendrils that seemed to arch protectively over its centre. It was a bright spot on a cold, cloudy day—I’m sure that’s why Mother Nature gave us flowers.”

I have to agree.
