Nature is full of inspiration, even when you don’t go looking for it, as Louise and I found this week.
I had no idea what I’d be taking a photo of this week and then an idea dropped from the sky – literally. Blue Eyes went out to collect the paper and this not-so-little preying mantis dropped down next to his foot. He (Blue Eyes) was very calm – I would have screamed. But, I was brave enough to get up close and personal with the PM. He was curious and alert, even though I was centimetres from his face. I love the detail in his face – click on the image to see an even bigger picture.
The colours in Louise’s photo are stunning. I love that blue – my favourite shade. Louise took this photo of a frangipani in her pool. It was a hot day, and the flower was already struggling with the heat and the chlorinated water. Despite that, there’s a lot to love about the detail in this photo—in the colour of the petals, the tiny water droplets, the glint of the sunlight. Louise even managed to capture the indentations of the petals on the surface tension of the water. Beautiful. Makes me want to go swimming and I don’t often feel that way.

Once a week, Louise (of Louise Allan: Life From the Attic) and I team up to share creative photos on our websites. It’s all part of our challenge to stretch ourselves creatively.
