Midweek Moment #14

Midweek Moment

I’m on fire this week – at least that’s how it feels when it comes to writing. I’ve proofread the ARC of Rocky Romance (which goes to the printer tonight, just in time) and I’ve been working hard on The Simple Life.

My picture this week represents the ‘on fire’ feel. Blue Eyes and I ended a day trip to the Margaret River Region with a fireside meal at fellow writer Lily Malone’s house. It was one of those comfortable evenings characterised by good food, good wine and good company, that was made even more special by the flickering fire (and a couple of jumbo marshmallows). The flames flickered and said “catch me if you can” … and so I had my creative challenge for the week.

While I was making memories, Louise was cherishing memories. As she wrote in a recent blog post, there are quite a few things in our house that she cherishes. In her words: “I only have a few items from older generations of my family, but I treasure them. The bed jacket in this photo was handmade by my Great-Grandmother. It has French seams, pintucking, and tiny rosebuds embroidered on the front and sleeves. She crotcheted around the lapels and collar, and made the loops for the buttons. The material’s discolouring, and it smells musty and old, but I’ll never part with it for so many reasons.”

Once a week, Louise (of Louise Allan: Life From the Attic) and I team up to share creative photos on our websites. It’s all part of our challenge to stretch ourselves creatively.

  1. I love fire. Watching it, and hearing its sounds—the hiss and pop—actually makes me feel peaceful and serene, the opposite of what you’d think …
