TEASER TUESDAY: UNDER COVER OF DARK BY JUANITA KEES

Of all the sub-genres in romance, I think I enjoy romantic suspense the most. So, when Australian author Juanita Kees invited me to read her latest novel, I could hardly say no. A hunky cop who wants to bring a drug gang down, but falls in love with the widow of a sleazy lawyer with ties to the gang … sounds like a book to escape into. I’ll be starting this one soon, but figured I’d share the love early. Here’s the teaser:

Unable to speak around the lump in his throat, he nodded. He was a cop, for God’s sake! But there was something about Lily Bennetti that made him want more than to serve and protect at the level his duty required. Right now, with her looking at him like he was some kind of hero, he wanted to scoop her up, take her home and promise no harm would ever come to her or Luke again. (Under Cover of Dark, Loc 389 Kindle)

Here’s the blurb:

When Mark Johnson delves deeper into his investigation into the murder of Tiny Watts, and the involvement of a teenage gang with sleazy lawyer Gino Bennetti and his drug world ties, the last thing he expects is to be interviewing Gino’s widow, a woman in a world of trouble. When her husband is shot and killed, it is both a relief and a disaster. Lily has her son to protect and secrets that run deeper than the scars she bears. Mark Johnson is the last person she wants uncovering those secrets, especially the truth about her son Luke’s involvement in Tiny Watts’s murder. As the investigation continues and Lily’s wounds begin to heal, she finds the detective easy to trust and the friendship between them blossoms into more. But the secret Lily holds places everyone in very real danger. When it is finally revealed, Lily will lose everything: her son, the man she’s grown to love, her freedom and her life.

What do you think? Sound like something you’d read? What do you think of the cover?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

  1. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres. I was guilty of overdosing on them a few years back and I have cut back recently. I still would read this one though. It sounds quite gripping.
