Is there ever such a thing as too many books? I don’t think there are too many books to read, but there can definitely be too many to review. Often I’m sent books and, with an already sagging review shelf, these unsolicited books often end being overlooked – I just can’t fit them in to my schedule. Sunday Shout-Out aims to acknowledge these books and the publishers who have sent them to me.
Sunday Shout-Out is bookish meme hosted by Monique of Write Note Reviews. If you’re a book blogger and you want to join in, just:
- Share the title, author, blurb and image from a book (or more than one) you want to acknowledge
- Share the genre, price and link to the publisher so readers can follow up if they like the sound of the book
- Ping back to Write Note Reviews in your post.
1. Nobody But Him by Victoria Purman (romance, fiction RRP $29.99) – courtesy of Harlequin Mira
She didn’t expect to run into her first love… or to fall back in love with him! At eighteen, Julia Jones left for the city with a head full of grand plans for an exciting life that certainly didn’t include her home town of Middle Point — a main street with a pub — or Ryan Blackburn. But fifteen years — and a lifetime later — she’s forced to put her big city life on hold when she heads home to finalise her mother’s estate. Which is where she runs smack bang into the town’s new champion… the same Ryan Blackburn. The sensible thing to do? Stay the hell away from him and head back to Melbourne as fast as her stilettos can carry her. But Julia finds his offer of a helping hand and a hot body too delicious to refuse and dives into a reckless, one-time fling. What she doesn’t realise is that tomorrow has a way of sneaking up, and that saying goodbye to her home town — and to Ryan — is much harder the second time around.

2. Almost English by Charlotte Mendelson (fiction RRP $29.99) – courtesy of Pan Macmillan Australia
Home is a foreign country: they do things differently there. In a tiny flat in West London, sixteen-year-old Marina lives with her emotionally delicate mother, Laura, and three ancient Hungarian relatives. Imprisoned by her family’s crushing expectations and their fierce unEnglish pride, by their strange traditions and stranger foods, she knows she must escape. But the place she runs to makes her feel even more of an outsider. At Combe Abbey, a traditional English public school for which her family have sacrificed everything, she realises she has made a terrible mistake. She is the awkward half-foreign girl who doesn’t know how to fit in, flirt or even be. And as a semi-Hungarian Londoner, who is she? In the meantime, her mother Laura, an alien in this strange universe, has her own painful secrets to deal with, especially the return of the last man she’d expect back in her life. She isn’t noticing that, at Combe Abbey, things are starting to go terribly wrong.
Which of these would you like to read?

Romance for me would be my husband taking over the role of ‘mum’ for a week and letting me have a little break from – cooking, cleaning, getting the kids to bed etc. He already does traditional romantic things like flowers and massages but for something different I’d find it very romantic if he took over the domestic responsibilities.
Ah, just dreaming…
I love the sound of Nobody But Him by Victoria Purman. Looks like my kind of book.
Hey, I love the idea of this meme! And these books sound fantastic, so I simply had to add them to my TBR pile which is a little daunting in size.
As far as the romantic thing I’d like done, mine is a bit lame and sad, but I’d like him to just turn his phone off for a day, hell I’d settle for an extended dinner without the thing ringing because of work.
I’d love a babysitter to be organised for my kids and to be treated like a princess for a night, Dinner and Dancing..
I had the most romantic moment when my husband proposed in a bat colony in a rainforest in Ingham bats all singing in chorus
I would love for the kids being taken care of, and be whisked away to have an overnight stay in a hotel room, have dinner ordered in, and being able to soak in a bath for ages in peace.
My husband suprised me by putting little instant heat packs in my slippers during winter when my feet were so cold. I’m struggling to think of anything more romantic or loving that he could do for me.
We are fast approaching our 10 year wedding anniversary and I have high expectations. I doubt they will be fulfilled but I have them nonetheless. I would be happy with dinner in a fancy restaurant, and a night at a posh hotel, complete with spa bath!
I would love to receive a bunch of flowers unexpectedly from my husband, that would make me feel so excited and it would be a romantic gesture. I’d love to read Nobody But Him.
Considering Nobody But Him is set not too far from me, that’s the one I’d love to read.
As for something romantic…I’m happy to please, just give me a couple of hours, dog on my lap with a good book and someone to make me coffee (the real stuff)
