Art is all around us if your eyes are open to it.
A few days ago I was up early, writing and drinking tea, and I felt the need to turn around and look out the window. The sky was alight with sunrise, peachy-pink clouds streaking the sky. I decided to capture that moment and while I was outside, my attention landed on something else.
The combination of light and water enhance the natural beauty of this wild grass that’s popped up in our native garden. I love the shimmering effect and the softness it creates. While I was outside I also attempted to take photos of a beautiful jewel-like spider in its web, but they didn’t work out as well as this. The spider kept moving!
Louise went to the opening of her friend, Mia Laing’s, art exhibition last week. She’s exhibiting along with two other artists, Jan Brown and Alicia Goring.
The painting Louise photographed is not Mia’s – it’s by Jan Brown and is titled Girl in Studio. It was difficult to take a good shot as the gallery was packed for the opening, and Louise didn’t want to ask guests to step out of the way while she took a photo. It’s never easy taking pictures indoors, but Louise has captured the light and colour well, giving the painting the life it deserves. Isn’t the ballerina’s contemplative expression lovely?
Louise will be sharing some of Mia’s art on her website in coming days. I follow Mia on Facebook and I can say that I would love to buy one of her paintings one day. I love the way she captures people and landscape, and their personalities.
Once a week, Louise (of Louise Allan: Life From the Attic) and I team up to share creative photos on our websites. It’s all part of our challenge to stretch ourselves creatively.
