DESTINY'S PATH

Author: Anna Jacobs
Hodder & Stoughton
Review: Monique Mulligan

THE sequel to Farewell to Lancashireand Beyond the Sunset, Destiny’s Path is an enjoyable historical drama that follows the fate of the Blake sisters.
With the two older Blake sisters, Pandora and Cassandra, now happily married, author Anna Jacobs turns her attention to twins Xanthe and Maia, who are working for emancipist Conn Largan and his mother in country Western Australia. Xanthe has dreams of travelling and when a handsome Irishman brings her some of her inheritance, it seems she can finally live her dream. But her sister Maia, who dreams of a life at Conn’s side, is shattered when the same Irishman brings trouble with him – Conn’s estranged, unstable wife.
While I have not read the first two books, I had no trouble picking up the threads of the story and quickly became drawn into Xanthe and Maia’s lives. Jacobs creates strong, enduring female leads that complement the often harsh setting of colonial Australia, and her depiction of life as it was shows her dedication to her craft, with thorough research evident. As a historical romance writer, she has a proven ability with more than 50 books behind her, and has again delivered an engaging read.
