Happy Easter! Choc Chunk Slice has been a favourite in my home for many years, thanks to the kindness of a friend who shared a recipe in the schoolyard one day. It’s also a favourite at the Stories on Stage events I host, with regulars often requesting “that yummy chocolate slice with bits in it”.
After several requests for the recipe today (I made it for an Easter Sunday lunch), I thought I’d share with my readers as well. I made this slice today for a family gathering and thought I’d share, since this one always gets the thumbs up. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do.
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- ½ cup dessicated coconut
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 125g butter, melted
- 1 x 400g can sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 180˚C.
Line a slice tray with baking paper so the edges hang over. My tray is approx. 24cm by 18cm.
Mix all of the above ingredients and spread into tray. It will be a thick mix.
Break 125g-200g cooking chocolate into chunks. Use white, milk or dark or a mixture. Dark is especially good. Press lightly into the slice mix.
Bake slice for about 25 minutes. It will be fudgy in the centre.
Cool in the pan; cut while barely warm
Write Note Reviews hints: This slice is delicious while warm, when the choc chunks are still melting, but also great straight from the fridge. It keeps for several days and can also be frozen. Eating a good-sized piece with good quality ice-cream is a tasty dessert.
