My last Book Club theme was “Agatha Christie” and one of my friends read The Monogram Murders by Sophie Hannah. She passed it on to me after hearing I was a Christie fan long ago. I also like Sophie Hannah’s work, so I’m interested to see how she portrays Christie’s Hercule Poirot. The publisher says: Internationally bestselling author Sophie Hannah breathes new life into the incomparable detective. In this thrilling tale, Poirot plunges into a mystery set in 1920s London—a diabolically clever puzzle that will test his brilliant skills and baffle and delight longtime Christie fans and new generations of readers discovering him for the first time.
Here’s the teaser:
I’m afraid I laughed. ‘Poirot, that’s just plain silly. Yes, cufflinks normally come in pairs but really, it’s quite simple: he wanted to kill three people, so he only used three cufflinks. You can’tuse the notion of some dreamed-up fourth cufflink to prove anything – certainly not to link the hotel murders to this Jennie woman.’ (p31)
Here’s the blurb:
Hercule Poirot’s quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. She is terrified – but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done. Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a fashionable London Hotel have been murdered, and a cufflink has been placed in each one’s mouth. Could there be a connection with the frightened woman? While Poirot struggles to put together the bizarre pieces of the puzzle, the murderer prepares another hotel bedroom for a fourth victim…
Did this get your interest? It sure captured mine.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Your teaser sounds interesting! I think it’s adorable that your Book Club has themes! I’ve yet to find one in my area that I can join, but I really hope I can do so soon!
here’s my TT for the week!
We like the themes idea, as well. We chose that rather than set books just to be different. It makes for fun conversation. So far we’ve done classics, Paris, Agatha Christie and transport and our next one is New Year. Help!
Who doesn’t love a good Christie? My teaser.
Well, I bet Poirot is onto something there. Great teaser. Here’s mine

this one made me confused. i thought the first time that this book was written by Agatha Christie. but great teaser anyway. thanks for sharing! hope you have a good week.
It can be a bit confusing … no, not a Christie itself, but using her characters and replicating her style.
Never underestimate Poirot:) I’ve not read Christie in some time.
Here’s my TT – http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/12/02/teaser-tuesdays-90-come-along-with-me/
That’s what I think … and then I thought, what if it’s another red herring? And then I thought, but that’s what they want me to think …
This does sound interesting and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Interesting. Did Hannah do a good job capturing the mood and Poirot?
My TT this week is from The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly: http://wp.me/pZnGI-gb
I’m halfway through, so still deciding. She’s trying hard, but it’s as if the words are there but the atmosphere not.
Thanks for the report. I fear that’s often the way with authors trying to revisit characters from past authors.
Sophie Hannah’s books intrigue me…thanks for sharing. Here’s mine: “THE SECRETS OF MIDWIVES”
I’m also intrigued by SH’s books. This one is different because she’s trying to emulate Christie’s style.
I do like the teaser and I really wanted to read this one but then a trusted blogger made me change my mind – I would give it a try if a friend lent me a copy though. I do hope you enjoy it. Here is my TT https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2014/12/02/teaser-tuesday-december-2/
I’m in two minds, Cleo. It’s just not the same.
That’s what I feared and some things are best left alone but that’s not to say I’m not curious.
A nice cozy mystery.Good teaser!
Thank you!
